Corso Vittorio Emanuele

The evidences of the first settlement date back to 1169, when it appeared with the name "Placeolum" in one of Pope Alexander III's bulls.

The village was a feudal property and in the 13th century it started expanding beyond the castle walls.

In 1693 it was half levelled by a violent earthquake and it was later rebuilt.

Among the most important monuments we mention the church of St. Sebastian (1609), the Mother Church dedicated to St. Nicholas (18th century), Palace Iudica (18th century) and the Monumental Cemetery (neoclassical and art-nouveau, 19th century).

We also mention the first "Historical Museum of Education", founded in Palazzolo Acreide in 1915 by the teacher Natalizio Marotta (1862-1960).
