It is prevalently an agriculture centre, the main cultivations being those of cereals, olives, almonds, carobs and fruit.
There are also cow and sheep farms. Remarkable is also its handmade embroidery production.
The name of the town comes from the Sicilian word Sularinu, which means solitario (lonely).
We do not have many historical evidences about the settlement, but thanks to some findings we know that it was already inhabited in the late Imperial Roman period and in the Byzantine age.
The feud was founded by Giuseppe Antonio Requesens in 1759 and it belonged to that family for a long time.
Of great artistic importance are the Mother Church dedicated to St. Paul, the church of the Madonna of Tears and the War Memorial.
