Tourism in Calatafimi
Going through the state highway 113 which from Trapani leads to Calatafimi, it reaches to a junction that gets to a hill called Pianto Romano.
On its top the Ossuary Monument rises. It was built in 1892 in honour of the Garibaldian fallen during the battle against the Bourbons and it was planned by Ernesto Basile (1857-1932).
Looking from the top of the hill at the plain below, it is still now easy to recall to the mind the bravery which encouraged the Garibaldians. It impetuosly led them till the top, after having engaged, on open field, the continuous attacks by the Bourbons.
In this place Garibaldi, addressed to the general Nino Bixio who wanted to give ground, uttered the famous sentence Bixio, qui si fa l'Italia o si muore! (Bixio, here we make Italy or we die).
