Tourism and tourist places in Campobello di Mazara: The place of the Quarries of Cusa

From Campobello di Mazara going through the state highway 115 to Tre Fontane, it is possible to get to the place called the Quarries of Cusa, which are old caves of calcareous tufa.

They are the most evocative and natural factory of building materials.

It belongs to the Hellenic age, and people of Selinunte quarried the calcareous tufa from it and they used it to build their town.

The work of quarrying was definitively stopped by the Carthaginians when conquered Selinunte.

Immersed in a rough and green area, suddenly it runs into some sort of cylindrical drums which immediately express the way of making the rocchi (the costituent elements of the columns of temples). It is a distant scene which makes to live again past times.
