Poggioreale, amid past, present and future
Text Giovanni Montanti In the Valley of Belice an evocative itinerary through the heart of the Province of Trapani unwinds carrying one from prehistory to the third millennium. In the heart of the Bagnitelli fief, lying at the foot of Mount Castellazzo (formerly an Elimian center and afterwards Greek dominated) the Marquis Francesco Morso founded a town called Poggioreale in 1642. Following the earthquake of 1968 Poggioreale's story continued elsewhere where now in a valley the new Poggioreale arises as a modern town surrounded by undisturbed nature and by relieves dominated by spectacular panoramas. The people of Poggioreale entrust their hope for a bright future in the town's favourable position right in the middle of the routes most travelled by tourists in Western Sicily and its rich agricultural resources. Not wishing to loose its cultural moorings the new Poggioreale vigorously maintains its identity, roots and history. In the devotion for its Patron Saint Anthony of Padua the people of Poggioreale express their inner desire to disseminate their message of brotherhood and love uniting them where ever in the world they are found.
