|The town of Poggioreale
Tourism in Poggioreale
Poggioreale was founded in 1642 by Francesco Morso. In 1968 was razed by the terrible earthquake and was later rebuilt in Mandria di Mezzo quarter on three bastions each of them is characterized by a residential nucleus that exended round the circular square.
Leaving the town and covering about a kilometre in North direction it gets to Mount Castellazzo on which some remains of an old settling down have been recently discovered.
The urban centre has been discovered only in part: it is not large but is very interesting. Probably its colonization began in the VI century B.C., but some nucleuses of people had to live there also before it.
Almost surely it is a settling founded by Elima civilization and it is not excluded that it can be identify with the mysterious Entella, the third Elima town which is in many chronicles of old authors.
With Erice, which is considered the most fascinating town where rose sacred places erected by the old people, and Segesta the most important and powerful among the Elimi places, Entella was one of the main municipality of the Elima civilization.
